PROJECT SUMMARY

Autostrade per l'Italia, Europe's leading concessionaire for the construction and management of toll motorways, has been commissioned by the Directorate General for the Supervision of Highway Concessionaires to start a programme to replace motorway safety barriers.

The aim of this project is to upgrade the oldest safety barriers with modern ones that perform better in terms of safety and performance capacity, after defining the general priority criteria for the replacement of safety barriers. The subject of the work will be the bridge edge, traffic island and side edge barriers.

An expert team, also made up of technical bodies representing the Concessionary Companies that manage the highway network, drew up the action plan.

PROJECT DETAILS

SOCOTEC Italia surveyed over 1000 kilometres of highway in order to map the hydraulic works and underground utilities in the area affected by the project. Through the use of GPR STREAM UP technology, the team is able to survey very large areas, making it easy to meet deadlines and maintain excellent data quality even at high speeds.

Protecting the environment, respecting time and costs, involving local communities and fighting corruption are just some of the challenges facing the team involved in this project.
