Project Details

EDF Renewables develops and operates renewable energy projects in France and internationally. For more than ten years, EDF Renewables has been deploying its expertise in offshore wind through projects in development, construction and operation.

EDF Renewables and its partners have several offshore wind projects at different stages of development.

Among them:

  • The Fécamp wind farm, in operation since May 2024, consists of 71 offshore wind turbines for a total capacity of around 500 megawatts. Its production will cover the equivalent of the domestic electricity consumption of more than 770,000 people, or more than 60% of the population of Seine-Maritime.
  • The Calvados wind farm, whose work is underway, will have 64 turbines installed off the coast of the Bessin region. With a total capacity of around 450 megawatts, it will cover the needs of 630,000 people, or more than 90% of the department's population.
  • The Provence Grand Large project, a pilot project in the Bouches-du-Rhône region aimed at testing a new floating wind turbine technology. The 3 turbines will represent an installed capacity of 25 MW, producing the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 45,000 inhabitants.

SOCOTEC and EDF Renewables Partnership

Description of the Missions Entrusted

SOCOTEC technicians were already working on the onshore wind turbines operated by EDF Renewables in France.

With this expanded partnership, our teams now have expertise in various technical and regulatory aspects of the Fécamp, Calvados and Provence Grand Large projects.

Fécamp and Calvados

  • Verification of the electrical installations present in the electrical substations.
  • Control of the lightning protection system of the electrical substations.
  • Periodic checks of the lifting and release equipment of the onshore Operations and Maintenance bases as well as the electrical substations.

Provence Grand Large

  • Checks of the cranes and personal protective equipment at sea, in parallel with the maintenance operations carried out by the SPIE, VALEMO and SERVICES VOLTIGE consortium.

"Continuing the partnership we had with EDF Renewables onshore onto the offshore projects is a great reward for the investments we have made to meet the needs of the French offshore wind industry, and above all a sign of trust that commits us for the future."
